With 2017 coming to a close, we’d like to take this opportunity to look back on the year, and talk about some things we will be prioritizing in 2018. Our company and community is growing at a fast rate, which we are all so excited and proud of. 2017 was a year of growth; 2018 will be the year we improve on that growth, implement more frequent communication, and respond faster and more directly to issues that come up.
There have been some big concerns and issues which have sprung up recently (and some, not-so-recently) that we will be addressing today and over the next few weeks as we work on improvements and solutions:
1. The Store, and Customer Service
2. Grandfathered FIRST memberships being cancelled
3. The video player / community website
4. Ad reads & FIRST
We take full responsibility for the issues that many of you have been experiencing. I'm here to provide some insight, clarity, and transparency on these issues.
STORE and CUSTOMER SERVICE
There were a number of issues our store faced all at once, and we did not act fast enough to handle them. More about those details and how we took action to remedy them can be read in Chelsea’s journal here.
It became a mess, and we did not communicate what was going on well at all. We understand that many of you did not receive orders in time for Christmas, and that is unacceptable on our part. We are so sorry for the trouble this has caused and we are all working over the holiday break on something that will hopefully express our sincerest apologies and let you know how important you are.
We would also like to apologize for anyone who has had a negative experience reaching out to our customer service team during this time. Our CS team has been working as hard and fast as they can to handle these issues, and we always appreciate your feedback on your experience. In continuing to be transparent, we were not adequately prepared for just how excited all of you were to shop in our store, especially with the unexpected issues.
We are investing in growing this team in 2018 and making it the best it can be, and devoting more of our attention to CS as a whole -- because you guys deserve the best. I hope that you'll give us a chance to prove ourselves in the future, especially after we make some major changes we have in the works.
GRANDFATHERED FIRST MEMBERSHIP THROUGH PAYPAL
I want to address a few comments we’ve read, stating that Rooster Teeth is purposely cancelling the grandfathered rate FIRST memberships in order to get more money. This is absolutely not the case. We appreciate everyone who supports us, and are so thankful for those of you who've been Sponsors/FIRST members for many years.
We've had ongoing issues with PayPal, the biggest one being that if for whatever reason, PayPal wasn't able to collect funds on the subscription, it cancels it. 99% of the time it's due to a bank account change, card expiring, etc. The other 1% is a complete fluke, causing a lapse in payment for whatever reason, thus canceling the subscription. We are currently looking into a solution for those who lost their grandfathered rate through error, rather than plan change or manual cancellation, and we will have an update on this in the new year. We apologize for the confusion and frustration experienced with this issue.
THE VIDEO PLAYER & COMMUNITY WEBSITE
We are making several changes to the upcoming player in response to the current player issues. On our new platform we will actually have insight into player issues, and will able to fix them before users are largely affected.
After you see updates rolling out for our video platform, we’re going to begin releasing changes to our community website. We are so excited to show you what we’ve been working on this past year, and look forward to having much more frequent updates on this.
AD READS & FIRST PROMOTIONS
We’ve heard your feedback on a number of FIRST-related issues, and we’ve decided to make changes to accommodate that feedback:
We will not have more than 3 ad reads (including the RT Store) on any podcast
We won’t run a new FIRST promotion week until all previous goals have been met
We will work harder at keeping you updated on fixes and changes that we are making to our website and video experience
I can't say enough good things about you all -- our community, our family -- and how much your continued support and love, despite our errors and missteps, means to us. We want to do right by you, and want to give you the best experience possible, in all areas.
With most people off for the Holidays at this time, we plan to circle back in the new year to touch on all of these issues regularly moving forward. Your patience as we find solutions is incredibly appreciated.
I know this is a lot to take in at once, so I also want to let you know that we plan to do weekly posts that are more topic-focused, in order to talk more at length about specific things more regularly.

Was a really fun day shooting with @wesellis, @gisellegrayson and @coolnathan -- and being getting to pose/strut out stuff with @Miles, @coleg, and @micaburton. I know what you're thinking- "man, those are some great poses. Such realistic laughter!" -- that's because we were actually just having a really good time and genuinely laughing with each other.
So awesome to be surrounded by good friends.

IT'S HAPPENING! MORE FASHIONZ!
I'm very excited to introduce the BD Adventure Collection, which just hit the Rooster Teeth Store. This collection has 6 new pieces, including a beanie and 5 shirts (2 of which are unisex cuts).
Every item has a positive word or phrase, because you are awesome and you should know that. Why is it called the Adventure collection? Well, A) it sounded cool and B) because self-discovery is a never-ending adventure, and I felt like this collection reflected that. In addition, each piece is so soft and comfortable and perfect to take on any trip.
I want to thank Tony and Michele, the designers who helped make these ideas a reality, and the entire store team who deals with my jumbled concepts and thoughts each time we work on a new collection. We wouldn't have these A+ Fashionz without 'em! <3

So with the crazy month I've had shooting Blood Fest, starting production on Always Open Season 3, and traveling for a bunch of conventions, I was not able to film much for August's Barbara Vlogs. Was planning to go on a cool outdoor adventure this weekend, but Hurricane Harvey obviously made that impossible.

Hey guys! Long time no speak!
The Rooster Teeth website has been around for over 13 years. In those years, we've seen different iterations of the site, as well as changes in activity (from both our members and RT staff) and function. Some for the better, some for the worse.
With the growth of other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, etc, we recognize that our community is splintered in different directions. Even I am guilty of not being as active on this site as I used to be or want to be.
This is our home. This is where you should be able to interact with the Rooster Teeth community and staff, and we have been working at figuring out how to get back to that.
This is why I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of the Rooster Teeth family, Dan McComas! (@kickme444)
Dan has an incredible history, working on the community site software / product at Reddit & Reddit Gifts, Imzy, and others. He will be working to define and adapt the vision of the community website, and develop it into something we're all proud of. @Chelsea and I will also be working closely with him and you guys to make sure we keep you in the loop, and hear your wants and concerns.
We are very excited to have him on board. He'll be checking the comments of this post, so give him a proper RT community welcome!

I mentioned briefly on Twitter, but at RTX this year, we're hosting an Always Open Happy Hour with fellow cast & crew from the show!
Date: July 8th
Time: 7 - 8:30 PM CT
Location: Rain on 4th
A few things:
- No, this is not a live show or panel. Just hanging, having some drinks!
- 21+, since it's at a bar. Sorry, youngins!
- This is a ticketed event - not a "first come, first served" event.
- You will also need your badge to get in. This is not open to the public.
Tickets will go on sale this Tuesday (June 27) at 7 PM CT RIGHT HERE.
Another important detail: tickets for this will be $5, and ALL proceeds from ticket sales will be going to Out Youth, which serves the Central Texas LGBTQ+ (lesbian/gay/bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning) youth and their allies with programs and services to ensure these promising young people develop into happy, healthy, successful adults. Sadly since this is a smaller venue, we have very limited capacity. If you don't manage to snag a ticket, not to worry- we're also doing an Always Open PANEL at RTX, with much more space for everyone to join us! It’s summer, which can only mean one thing: CAMP CAMP IS BACK... BACK!
The second season of Camp Camp kicks off tomorrow morning, with an all-new time: 8 AM CT. We know you’ve been in the habit of getting up early for school, so why not keep that trend going by waking up early for CARTOONS? Much better than school, am I right?
Another change to the release schedule is that now Camp Camp will be exclusive to FIRST members for 7 days, meaning non-FIRST members will get the first episode NEXT Friday (June 16th) at 8 AM CT.
If you’re not a FIRST member, this is a great time to sign up. Camp Camp Season 2 is hilarious and fantastic, especially that Nerris character. We know you’ll want to see each episode as soon as it's released, so you should sign up. Like, now. You can even get a free 30-day trial!

It's pretty hard, but can be harder/easier depending on your situation. If you have a company that wants to hire you and sponsor your Work Visa / pay for an immigration lawyer to handle it, it's easier. If you don't have a job offer and are just trying to get to the states.. it's...hard. Real hard.

We recognize the issues with our site - and we're working on them. We recently brought on more people for web development and I believe front-end design (if not soon). Believe me, it's understood it needs a lot of work, and a lot of it has begun. Many things to work on, but you will start seeing improvement as we go. Our goal is to make this feel like a home for everyone, both in watching content and being part of a community base. Changes be comin'!
