A lot to cover this week!

Luffy VS Mr. Fantastic | DBX - Sound Design Notes

      • You may notice something interesting about the voices I used for Luffy and Mr. F. So far I've only seen two people who have noticed...any guesses?
      • Fights are fun to work on by the way - in case you were wondering.

Top 10 Manliest Characters | Editor Notes

      • #8 - Kool-Aid Man - Ah ha! The return of the lower third humor. I love it.
      • #5 - Ron Swanson - Editing this entry might have been the easiest thing I have edited for ScrewAttack. I LOVE that show.
      • #1 - Superman - Have y'all seen the Superman 75th anniversary short film? It's amazing! I hadn't seen it till editing this entry but I couldn't get enough of it.

Cartoon All Stars VS Drugs | The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Writer & Editor Notes

      • The first draft of this script was nearly three pages long. Most scripts are 1.5 pages. There was so much to make fun of!
      • Those of you with a keen eye noticed that there was a JNCO jeans joke in this video and a recent Top 10. Nick and I wrote them independantly.
      • Here's an additional fun fact: The day this video goes live on YouTube is the same day this special aired: April 21, 1990. Exactly 28 years ago! Bug's time machine trickery is at work again!

Top Ten Numbers - Editor Notes

      • What a fun list to work on. The guys have been wanting to produce this list since I started at ScrewAttack. This was another list that everyone came together to work on. Nick and I edited this list, Noel, Gerardo and I helped shoot in the intro and obviously Sam and Austin wrote and knocked this list out of the park.
      • One thing I love about you guys is that even though this was a jokey/April Fool's list, a lot of you still had serious thoughts and comments about numbers we omitted. Amazing.
      • Another comment thread I really liked seeing was anything along the lines of "For a joke list, this is pretty deep."
      • I initially thought, "This will be a fun list but tough cause how are we going to visualize numbers." Then I remembered that The Count exists. Thanks, Count.
      • One of my favorite parts of this script is anytime Sam or Austin say something like "That's why 16 is our 7"
      • Did you know that there is a WordArt generator online? The internet is magic.
      • At one point in this production I got to watch Nick direct Sam and Austin in the V.O. booth. It was such a cool experience. Nick is a talented guy and I'm really happy I get to work with him.
      • Another deserving shout out: Our intern Noelle. She found a TON of great footage that I ended up using throughout the edit. I'm looking at you, #8
      • What a perfect way to bring back the recap right?
      • When I read that Triskaidekaphobia was in the script I immediately thought of that Friends clip. Nick edited that entry and found it on his own. Somethings are meant to beeeeee.

Top 10 Characters We Want In Super Smash Bros. Switch - Editor Notes

      • Wanna feel alive?? Produce a Top 10 in 22ish (working) hours.
      • We all jumped in to make this Top 10 and it was really fun to come together for it. Gerardo edited that intro in After Effects, Nick edited the Banjo entry and we all wrote sections of the script. A ScrewAttack labor of love!
      • Chad correctly pointed out to me that I love referencing Anchorman in videos. I think that movie might be the foundation of my mental reference house.
      • Of all of the clips I could choose for the Kingdom Hearts III portion of the #1 entry, I chose the Toy Story clip because I love that movie and that clips makes me happy.
      • I wrote the secret number 11 and I'm strangely proud of it.

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Editor Notes

      • There were a couple of times this week at work where people looked over at my monitor to see what I was working on without context. It made for some classic awkward hilarity. (I'm looking at you "Make Crash Kawaii AF" Sony Executive and bifurcated penis bandicoot)
      • Sprite animating is super fun. I wouldn't want to do what the DEATH BATTLE/DBX artists do but I'll do 5 seconds of Crash jumping, anytime.
      • Crash is weird. Crash's Japanese commercials are weird. But also commercials in general are pretty weird right? I don't really have a follow up for that I was just thinking about how strange they are.
      • Anyone else get any Gus vibes from the orange guy at 2:47?

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Editor Notes for "Being Black Panther Sucks"

      • Realizing/remembering that the cologne in Anchorman is called "Sex Panther" was a particularly satisfying moment.
      • A similarly exciting moment was when my brain conjured up a vague memory of Bill Nye the Science Guy running down a soccer field. Thanks, brain!
      • I tried my best to channel my inner Ryan Coogler for this video. Specifically in the comic panels around 1:50 & 2:30.
      • The image of that guy farting on the thermal camera will haunt me for years to come.
      • FYI: those of you who need very visual footage of both an unwanted boner and a girl's period, look no further than Degrassi: The Next Generation. Once again my brain went straight to those scenes. Thanks again, brain!
      • This is my first video to include elements from After Effects. So it's my most technical video and it's about farts! Love my job.
      • As a treat for those of you use read these journals: look closely at 4:40.

DBX: Thor Vs 100 Pikachu - Sound Design Notes

      • And with this DBX I cross off another item on my bucket list: I got Thor saying "Have at thee" in a video.
      • Those Mjolnir sounds are insanely fun to play with.
      • I really want a Mjolnir paperweight for my desk. It would go really well next to my surfing Pikachu.
      • Question for y'all. What genre would you call the Pokemon fight music?? People online keep saying "Soundtrack" which is such an unhelpful, non-answer.
      • Does lightning hurt the God of Thunder? Also, why is he the God of Thunder?! He's the God of the sound that lightning makes?? Is Thor a master Sound Designer? I understand that "God of Thunder" sounds better than "God of Lightning" but still...seems kinda dumb.
      • "Wait. Did I just hear a bowling pin sound effect in this DBX??" You betcha!
      • Who would win in a fight: 100 Pikachu-sized Thors or one Thor-Sized Pikachu? Keep in mind, 100 tiny Mjolnirs.
      • I would have loved to include the line from The Avengers, "Do I look to be in a gaming mood?" Would have been perfect.
      • The name of the song in this DBX is called "Put The Hammer Down" So yeah.

    • A Tale of Two Ads - Editor & PA Notes

      JoshuaKazemi ScrewAttack Editor

I looked up from the cold hard studio floor and my eyes were met with a pedestal, a floating pair of underwear, and one man's quest to produce the greatest MeUndies ad spot you have ever met in your entire life. That man's name is Noël Wiggins. Our director, our leader, our visionary. We've made it our goal at ScrewAttack to provide y'all with the best, most entertaining ads, we can produce. And no one better embodies that than Noël.

At one point during the nine hour shoot we found ourselves in need of a shoelace. Without hesitation, Noel took his shoe off, undid his laces and continued on with the rest of the shoot with one single shoe on his right foot. It was in that moment that I realized...I would follow this man to the end of the earth and protect his vision with my life. It's amazing what one can accomplish with a shoe string budget.

I also edited together that War Robots ad. So there's that too.

    • The Desk Of The Desk Of DEATH BATTLE: Godzilla Is A Sellout - Writer & Editor Notes

      JoshuaKazemi ScrewAttack Editor
      • This script started out with several ads featuring lots of different characters. It was a few hundred more words than the average DoDB script so we focused on Godzila
      • Who owns this character? Is he public domain? Why has he been in THIS many ads?
      • Remember this stellar "Godzilla" joke from Austin Powers: I Don't Remember Which One? I do.
      • I wish "Godzilla Repellent" was a real thing because it would essentially just be a quick and easy way to spray some Dr. Pepper down your throat. Mmm.
      • I got Lisa Foiles to say "Hold on to your butts" I can cross that one off my bucket list.
      • Of all of the things I've written, the line "Needlessly destroying signage" might be one of my favorites.
      • Sometimes you throw something together in the edit because you know it'll get reviewed. Like "This idea is crazy and it'll either have to get changed or someone will give me a note to make it better" And then sometimes your crazy, subliminal Blue Apron joke makes it into the final video exactly as you had it.
      • What are your thoughts on Godzilla (2014)? I wanna know. Can you show me? (In the comments below)
      • My James Gunn/GOTG mega Easter egg comes in the form of something hidden in shots from the Snickers ad. I'll leave it at that....happy hunting.
      • There's something really great about the feeling you get when you make your boss cry with laughter over a Nickleback edit/joke in your video.

    • The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE: Knuckles Was A God?! - Editor Notes

      JoshuaKazemi ScrewAttack Editor
      • These comics are insane! Hard to follow, dialog heavy and varying art styles from issue to issue. I don't even have a joke here it's just madness! Pass the bleach, Jocelyn!
      • With the thumbnail, intro music, intro and end slate, the conversion for Desk of assets is complete!
      • Here's a real editor note for a change: There are a ton of nested sequences in this video. Might be a fun new game to pick them out!
      • Two questions I thought of when using that Simpsons clip. What's your favorite season? And What's your favorite chalkboard gag?
      • How has there not been a Sonic Drive In/Sonic the Hedgehog cross promotion?! How!
      • Someone PLEASE succinctly explain to me the difference between hedgehogs, echidnas and porcupines. I don't understand.
      • "Chaos Knuckles" sounds like a fighting move in which you swing your brass knuckle-clad fists in rapid succession all over your opponent's face.
      • On second thought "Chaos Knuckles" should be what we say right before we crack all of our knuckles and get down to business.
      • Julie-Su, Jani-Ca, Lara-Su, Laney-Ca, Brainy-Su, Zaney-Ca, Zip-a-dee-doo-dah
      • You should have to pass a test before you're allowed to write about time travel.

    • Blue Apron Ad - Editor Notes

      JoshuaKazemi ScrewAttack Editor

Those of you who tuned in to the season premiere of DEATH BATTLE on YouTube today might have noticed a new kind of Blue Apron ad. That little gem was directed by Noel Wiggins of ScrewAttack. It was edited by me and shot by the two of us. It stars the incomparable Austin Harper of ScrewAttack, Rooster Teeth's Cockbite of the Year 2017. It was a labor of love and something we all have being working towards in our careers for years. We really appreciate this award and have a lot of people to thank; Chad James, Sean Hinz, Ben Singer and everyone else over at ScrewAttack who believed in this passion project. We also want to thank everyone here at Rooster Teeth and of course, everyone over at Blue Apron, a better way to cook. Oh, they're playing the dubstep and that's my time. Thank you all! You like it, you really like it!

    • Top 10 Craziest Fictional Presidents - Writer Notes

      JoshuaKazemi ScrewAttack Editor

This episode of Top 10 was written by me and edited by Nick Cramer!

10 - Deathstroke - Are there any real people with eye patches that lead respectable lives in positions of power without any doubt or concern from people? There easily could be, I just don't know.
9 - My Date With The President's Daughter - OH YEAH, MY DATE WITH HER, SO SPECIAL
8 - Hall of Presidents - Honestly, this was the third example I thought when brainstorming this list lol
7 - Lex Luthor - This is the Lex I wanted in BvS. Instead we got Jesse Landis in prison.
6 - Independence Day - What a speech, man. What a speech. This speech > Pacific Rim speech.
5 - Andrew Jackson - I've got a fresh Andrew Jackson for the first person to find that comic*
4 - Palpatine - "Hideous Sidious" is one of my favorite bits in this script. The following is a series of other Palpatine puns/word play: Pay Palpatine, Ask Sheeves, Darth Garth (Wayne's World)
3 - Black Mirror - I just watched Season 4 Episode 1 the other night. The Star Trek episode. Really good. Anyone else have thoughts. SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
2 - Conduit - It would be really cool if Lincoln came back to be President. Penny for your thoughts.
1 - Naruto - I don't know anything about Naruto. Nick wrote this entry haha
11 - Pedro - Vote for Pedro! So glad Pedro made it. You go Pedro.

Watch the Video: RT | YT

      *Just kidding.

P.S. Josiah Bartlett is the greatest fictional president ever. He wouldn't be crazy just the best president you have ever met in your entire life.

    • The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE: Fin Fang Foom - Editor Notes

      JoshuaKazemi ScrewAttack Editor

      Here's a new thing!

      • Despite all of my mental facilities I want to say "Fing Fang Foom"
      • Fin Fang Foom...make my heart go boom space dragon girl.
      • Comic books are weird.
      • Chad and I had to sit down and have a serious conversation about how to best illustrate FFF defecating on a family to their deaths. How was your work?
      • Anyone notice the shot of Dragonheart I put in the intro? I had to do it.
      • Fin Fang Foom would be awesome in the MCU. You know post phase 3 when things get weird.
      • I would watch a political chat show hosted by FFF called "Fin Fang Facts"
      • Dr. Doom and Fin Fang Foom both have a Gloom. The fume from the Gloom filled the room, making it their very own tomb.
      • Foom Raider: The Tomb Raider Fin Fang Foom crossover we're all clamoring for.
      • Would my desk be called The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE? Yes. In fact that is what I will call these journal posts.

Thank you for answering my last question.  Considering how awesome RWBY Volume 5 is, I'm not shocked at all Gen:Lock is still on the back-burner.  But since it is a new series that looks awesome, I want to help out to make sure it succeeds.  Right now, I have a character I would like to donate to you guys sometime.

  • Questions answered by JoshuaKazemi

Not annoyed at all! I asked around and it looks like things on that end are still wrapped up in RWBY Vol. 5. So, there will most likely be little information about Gen:Lock until some time after this production is finished.

Yeah! Josh is great. (I'm only picky about my name when I'm being credited. In that case I prefer 'Joshua Kazemi')

Gen:Lock looks amazing. I am so excited for it. I don't know much about it beyond what the community knows. The staff saw the teaser - the one that played in front of Lazer Team 2 - a few months back and I've been anxiously waiting for it ever since. ScrewAttack also works right next to RT Animation so, animation is always on my mind!

I have no idea! Haha sorry. I do know that the Animation Department is always working really hard on a lot of ongoing and new content for the community. Keep your eyes peeled!

It's great. I've been a fan for a long time. I have to pretend everything is normal and that I'm professional even though I sit in between Nick and Chad everyday, see Miles walking around our office, and watch them film Million Dollars But ten feet from my desk. Crazy stuff and I love it!

Hey! I'm Josh. I'm doing really well today. It's been a good day at work. How are you doing?
