The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - SHAMELESS Corporate Games - Editor Notes

      • One thing I love about the editing pipeline here at ScrewAttack is that I know my first cut of a video will go through at least Chad's hands before posting. So at this point I know that I can throw in any random/crazy idea I have and let Chad be the curator. So in this episode, Joceyln says the word "Youths" several times. So naturally I included this scene from My Cousin Vinny. It made me chuckle but I knew deep down it wasn't a good fit for the final video. But it's always fun to surprise Chad with my weird ideas.
      • If ever given the opportunity, I will never NOT use that clip of J. Jonah Jameson laughing. NEVER!
      • I probably would have loved that M&M game as a kid.
      • Does the Stranger Things or Rick and Morty mobile games count as corporate games? Or tv/movie games in general? I guess those are generally better than these games.
      • Right before (like 4 minutes before) the deadline for this video I noticed a typo in the credits. I wrote "footagr" instead of "footage." I sighed a heavy sigh and rushed to fix both versions of the video, export them, watch them, let programming know of my failures, and all as fast as possible. You're welcome for something you would have never noticed.
      • Unrelated, who is getting Octopath Traveler today?

      WATCH THE VIDEO!

P.S. we have a new Death Battle shirt and Chad really likes it. You should get one....

      Top 10 Pixar Movies - Co-Writer & Editor Notes

      • This was the Top 10 I was born to (co)write.
      • #10 Seriously, I know these movies so well I could have drawn storyboards for this edit filled with actual shots from these movies.
      • #9 Scratch what I just said! I just realized that this entry doesn't show a single frame of Kevin! I'm a fraud.
      • #8 Finding music to fit each of these movies was A JOY. Usually it's a pretty tough aspect of the job but each of these movies has such a distinct sound and score that I knew exactly what to look for each time.
      • #7 The final line of this entry + Nick's delivery + the music drop out + the clip = me so happy.
      • #6 Suck it, Star Trek Into Darkness.
      • #5 We produced this Top 10 before The Incredibles 2 came out and with our one per franchise rule, it was either going to be Incredibles 1 or 2. We were nervous about Incredibles 2 potentially blowing the first out of the water but I think it's safe to say Incredibles 1 deserves the spot on this list. (The sequel was really fun though!)
      • #4 I love Coco so much. That is all.
      • #3 The scene in this movie where he turns on the light and there's a ton of rats in the kitchen, FREAKS ME OUT. Still does. Great movie though.
      • #2 Toy Story is my all time favorite movie. I have Toy Story toys on my desk at work, I have a sizable Toy Story collection, I own all of the movies and once when I was 19 I started crying while explaining to my mom what "You've got a friend in me" means.
      • #1 I'm so happy with how this entry came out. I had vision for it, Nick knocked it out of the park and I practically scored it myself haha. It's 4 different songs cut and arranged to ebb and flow with the V.O. I was nervous that I was being a little too ambitious when I wrote it and it would end up feeling cheesy if not just contrived but I'm happy with the final product.

Top 10 Jurassic Park Moments w/ Boomstick - Writer Notes

      • Similar to my last journal post, this is my first time writing for Boomstick. It was a blast. He's a fun character to write for.
      • The "Welcome to Jurassic Park" moment which is at #2 is actually my personal favorite. I would place it at #1. Chad actually agreed with me. But Boomstick is a different animal.
      • Our writing intern, Genevieve Guimond, and I wrote the first draft of this script in about 8 hours. We were under the gun after some scheduling mix ups and cranked it out! It was a blast.
      • Gerardo did a great job editing this episode. That is all.
      • The juxtaposition of how great that first movie is and the talking dino "Alan" scene in the third movie is staggering.
      • How's the new movie? Haven't seen it yet.
      • Uh...uhhh, um.....uh...Jeff Goldblum.

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Donald Duck Has PTSD - Editor Notes

      • Here's another episode written by Genevieve Guimond!
      • I'm a big Disney fan, I love Donald but for some reason I kept accidentally referring to him and this episode has the "Daffy Duck" episode.
      • These "let's watch something together and make fun of it" episodes are my favorite DoDBs to edit. So fun.
      • One thing I really liked about this script is how it played with Jocelyn's "I do all the research" intro line. Gotta play around with the format every once in a while!
      • I wait and pray for the day I'm at a Trivia Night and we need to know Donald's middle name. Oh! Please!

Top 10 Destructive Weapons - Editor Notes

      • I've been working at ScrewAttack for almost a year now and this is my first time editing for Wiz & Boomstick.
      • The Nick scene: So that was in the script and we knew we needed to shoot it for a couple of weeks. Since I was editing this episode I felt a little more responsibility to make sure it would get shot. Naturally, I tried to communicate this around the office with as little context as possible. Sample sentence: "Hey, when are we going to bound and gag Nick?"
      • I hated the Ender's Game movie. I tweet/ranted about how bad it was for maybe a month. Sample tweet. Anyone out there like the book? I've never read it.
      • There was a lot of improv in the episode which was fun to listen to and assemble. Chad & Ben obviously have great chemistry together.
      • There are few things in this life more satisfying than finding the perfect copy-write-free song to fit a video. Check out #8 for reference.
      • That clip of those dudes knocking their heads together still makes my head hurt. LIKE WHAT?
      • I really like Doctor Who. I've only seen David & Matt episodes but I like what I've seen. BUT I HATE THOSE STUPID TRASH CAN DALEKS! ITS BEEN 55 YEARS HOW ARE THEY NOT DEAD YET

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Wonder Woman's Failed TV Show - Writer & Editor Notes

      •  When I was thinking about a Desk of to write I remembered this pilot but never expected to find the entire thing. It was a gift from the Amazonians themselves.
      • There's a lot to make fun of here but I sincerely think the costume is the worst part. This was a professional attempt at the WW costume! There's fantastic cosplay out there! It should looks so much better than this.
      • I love the new ascetic for Desk of and that it's live action. I'll never stop saying that.
      • Also love writing for Lisa. She brings so many lines to life and has such a good grip on the character.
      • If you have the time and the googles, watch this pilot. There's a scene where Diana watches THE NOTEBOOK. SERIOUSLY. YOU WATCH HER WATCH THE NOTEBOOK!
      • I've seen this pilot so many times at this point and I still don't have a firm understanding of what Themyscira Industries does. Like, why do that have thousands of employees if they just sell toys and one person fights crime? What's the business model?
      • Also I still can't get over how they have her sign up for facebook at the end. Really? This was made in 2011 maybe 2010, LIKE WHO WHAT WHYY FACEBOOK? UGH.

Top 10 Secret Lairs - Writer Notes

      • It's become a real joy to write a script and pass it off to Nick to edit. I have no idea how he's going to bring it to life and it's always fun to see the final product.
      • #10 - Dexter's Lab - Okay so who was super ready to use "Omelette de flomage" in french class?? Anyone else?!
      • #8 - Anthro Animals - I'm realizing now that the Cowboys hung out in a giant mug. Whoops.
      • #7 - Foot Clan - Nick wrote this entry!
      • #6 - Volcanoes - How desperate do you have to be to work full time inside a VOLCANO for an evil organization? Right now, think of your ideal salary, yeah, THATS NOT ENOUGH TO WORK IN A VOLCANO!
      • #4 - Justice League - I like to think of the whole "Space Base" gag as foreshadowing for our secret #11.
      • #2 - Bat Cave - Favorite bat cave on three. 1, 2, 3, LEGO BATMAN BAT CAVE!
      • #11 - Shrek's Layered Lair - One of my favorite lines I've ever written!

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Why Ant-Man is STUPID! - Editor Notes

      • I grabbed WAY more footage of Paul Rudd than I needed. No regrets.
      • Lisa on screen has made editing this show even more fun. It's great.
      • Listen, all I want to do is talk about Infinity War. It's been a month. Is this a problem?

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - The Death of Sonic Archie Comics - Editor Notes

      • LIVE ACTION LISA! Jocelyn is alive! We're all super excited to bring that character to life. Lisa will be on DEATH BATTLE Cast today at 4pm. Check it out!
      • Isn't her new set awesome?!
      • From an editing stand point, I really thought of this video as a sequel to the "Knuckles Was A God" episode. By that I mean I borrowed a ton of comic panels and key frames from that video.
      • I don't know Ken Penders but yikes. I think his actions speak for themselves. Wow.
      • Did anyone out there read the Sonic Archie Comics as all of this craziness was happening? What was it like?

Top 10 Deadliest Pokemon - Editor Notes

      • I love that Charizard sprite animation in the intro. That is all.
      • If Machoke learned how to speak, I would have a VERY hard time treating him like an animal that people trap in balls and force to fight. He's already very human looking.
      • If Muks are going extinct because of less pollution, are there activists for them? Sample sentence: "Muks are dying out, save Muks! Pollute more! POLLUTE!"
      • That ditto face on The Thing. Terrifying right?
      • If you want Nick to record the Pokedex for every Pokemon, tweet at him!

The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - The Kingdom Hearts Conspiracy - Writer & Editor Notes

      • I may or may not have hid 13 things in this video. Happy hunting!
      • I wish you all knew just how many times we heard Noel whisper "Orichalcum" to himself in the office this week.
      • I got super excited when I realized that I used a clip of Jack De Sena with Lisa Foiles (Jocelyn) performing voice over on top of it. It's All That!
      • The shot of the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland is from a home movie I made in 2011.
      • I love Disney and I'd be fine if they owned the world.
      • I also love a good (crazy) conspiracy theory and a good satire.
      • When I was working on the script, I was looking for something about Kingdom Hearts, since that's the most recent Death Battle, and then I remembered all of the 13 stuff as I started researching. It was perfect because my love for Disney and the Disney parks meant that I had all of that Mickey Mouse info locked and loaded. It all just flowed out of me like a nerd at a very specific trivia night.
      • Thank goodness for Chad James. He helped me punch up the script and found a great button to end on.
      • Also Kingdom Hearts is so freaking cool. (crazy plotting and all) I gotta play these games again.
      • There are 13 notes in this journal.
      • Seriously.
      • Count them.
      • Told you.

Top 10 Avengers That Should DIE in Infinity War - Writer & Editor Notes

      (NO SPOILERS)

      • #10 - Vision - I LOVE the MCU. Let's just get that out of the way. But honestly, I have this strong (and concerning) desire for this movie to be a gruesome blood bath. Like I would love if Thanos just walks up to Vision and effortlessly rips the Mind Stone out of his head ... all within the first 10 minutes. I may have a problem.
      • #9 - Drax - Sincerely, I think this would be a good death. What more is there for Drax beyond Thanos' death? Perhaps Infinity War will set something up for him or of course something in Guardians V3.
      • #8 - Star-Lord - I do miss chubby Chris Pratt and Parks and Rec in general - that doesn't justify his death. Please accept my sincerest apologies. It funny doh.
      • #7 - Pepper Potts - Again! I think this would be a legit death! If Pepper dies, what does Tony have to live for? maybe it'll push Tony to finally "lay down on the wire"
      • #6 - Loki - SOMEBODYSSSSSSS DEEEEEEEAAAAAAADDDDDDD!
      • #5 - Hawkeye - Seriously, where is he? DON'T ANWSER ME UNTIL AFTER I SEE THE MOVIE ON FRIDAY NIGHT!*
      • #4 - Phil Coulson - I legit miss old school Coulson. He is one of my favorite parts about Phase One. I guess in a sense he did really die in The Avengers because the character he is in Agents of SHIELD is so different. Also, just FYI, I have seen the first three seasons of AOS and have a love/hate relationship with it.
      • #3 - Captain America - Okay, seriously, I meant every word of this entry. When I finally saw the finished project with the music, the footage and Nick's performance, I got emotional, like for REAL! I love Cap!
      • #2 - Tony Stark - Get to the chase Marvel and just kill Tony and make him an AI assistant to the next Iron Person. Like the new JARVIS. We know it's coming.
      • #1 - Iron Fist - Lol
      • #11 - Nick Fury - Lolol

*Story Time: In 2012 I was insanely excited about The Avengers (like every good American) I bought tickets to the midnight screening and gathered a big group of friends. Unfortunately my best bud couldn't make it (his GF's birthday was the same day) He asked me to wait to see it with him and I DID NOT. Instead, I went into our dorm room when he wasn't around and I grabbed HIS Avengers masks for me and my friends to wear. #NOREGRETS. Flash forward to now. I live in Austin and he lives in Dallas. I told him to drive down to see it with me but he made me promise to wait to see it with him as payback. SO I WONT BE WATCHING IT TONIGHT AS SOON AS I COULD BE! I'll be waiting until Friday night like a chump. #SQUADGOALS

Luffy VS Mr. Fantastic | DBX - Sound Design Notes

      • You may notice something interesting about the voices I used for Luffy and Mr. F. So far I've only seen two people who have noticed...any guesses?

Top 10 Manliest Characters | Editor Notes

      • #8 - Kool-Aid Man - Ah ha! The return of the lower third humor. I love it.
      • #5 - Ron Swanson - Editing this entry might have been the easiest thing I have edited for ScrewAttack. I LOVE that show.
      • #1 - Superman - Have y'all seen the Superman 75th anniversary short film? It's amazing! I hadn't seen it till editing this entry but I couldn't get enough of it.

Cartoon All Stars VS Drugs | The Desk of The Desk of DEATH BATTLE - Writer & Editor Notes

      • The first draft of this script was nearly three pages long. Most scripts are 1.5 pages. There was so much to make fun of!
      • Those of you with a keen eye noticed that there was a JNCO jeans joke in this video and a recent Top 10. Nick and I wrote them independantly.
      • Here's an additional fun fact: The day this video goes live on YouTube is the same day this special aired: April 21, 1990. Exactly 28 years ago! Bug's time machine trickery is at work again!

Top Ten Numbers - Editor Notes

      • What a fun list to work on. The guys have been wanting to produce this list since I started at ScrewAttack. This was another list that everyone came together to work on. Nick and I edited this list, Noel, Gerardo and I helped shoot in the intro and obviously Sam and Austin wrote and knocked this list out of the park.
      • One thing I love about you guys is that even though this was a jokey/April Fool's list, a lot of you still had serious thoughts and comments about numbers we omitted. Amazing.
      • Another comment thread I really liked seeing was anything along the lines of "For a joke list, this is pretty deep."
      • I initially thought, "This will be a fun list but tough cause how are we going to visualize numbers." Then I remembered that The Count exists. Thanks, Count.
      • One of my favorite parts of this script is anytime Sam or Austin say something like "That's why 16 is our 7"
      • Did you know that there is a WordArt generator online? The internet is magic.
      • At one point in this production I got to watch Nick direct Sam and Austin in the V.O. booth. It was such a cool experience. Nick is a talented guy and I'm really happy I get to work with him.
      • Another deserving shout out: Our intern Noelle. She found a TON of great footage that I ended up using throughout the edit. I'm looking at you, #8
      • What a perfect way to bring back the recap right?
      • When I read that Triskaidekaphobia was in the script I immediately thought of that Friends clip. Nick edited that entry and found it on his own. Somethings are meant to beeeeee.

Thank you for answering my last question.  Considering how awesome RWBY Volume 5 is, I'm not shocked at all Gen:Lock is still on the back-burner.  But since it is a new series that looks awesome, I want to help out to make sure it succeeds.  Right now, I have a character I would like to donate to you guys sometime.

  • Questions answered by JoshuaKazemi

Not annoyed at all! I asked around and it looks like things on that end are still wrapped up in RWBY Vol. 5. So, there will most likely be little information about Gen:Lock until some time after this production is finished.

Yeah! Josh is great. (I'm only picky about my name when I'm being credited. In that case I prefer 'Joshua Kazemi')

Gen:Lock looks amazing. I am so excited for it. I don't know much about it beyond what the community knows. The staff saw the teaser - the one that played in front of Lazer Team 2 - a few months back and I've been anxiously waiting for it ever since. ScrewAttack also works right next to RT Animation so, animation is always on my mind!

I have no idea! Haha sorry. I do know that the Animation Department is always working really hard on a lot of ongoing and new content for the community. Keep your eyes peeled!

It's great. I've been a fan for a long time. I have to pretend everything is normal and that I'm professional even though I sit in between Nick and Chad everyday, see Miles walking around our office, and watch them film Million Dollars But ten feet from my desk. Crazy stuff and I love it!

Hey! I'm Josh. I'm doing really well today. It's been a good day at work. How are you doing?
